One of the top Mardi Gras in the country, the Gaslamp Quarter Mardi Gras Celebration and Parade is returning to San Diego on a new day with a new time, Saturday, February 6th, 2016 from 5:00 PM to midnight.  The Gaslamp Quarter Mardi Gras Parade and Celebration will take over ten blocks with FIVE incredible stages of enchanting music, stunning visual displays, the legendary Big Easy Parade, and more unique offerings than ever before.  Celebrate with over 40,000 revelers at one of the largest Mardi Gras events the West Coast has ever seen and make memories to last a lifetime.

THE BIG EASY PARADE: What would Mardi Gras be without the Big Easy Parade?  The legendary Big Easy Parade will travel down Fifth Avenue, lead by our celebrity Grand Marshall, at 9 PM. Revel in an eruption of sound and visual splendor of over 50 OVER-THE-TOP entries including music groups, roving performers, specialty acts, Mardi Gras krewes and New Orleans-like floats.  Larger-Than-Life floats will fill the streets as crowds roar for beads, beads, beads! Show stopping dance groups will strut their feathers, pearls, and masks down the route revving up the crowd to party through the night. Classic cars will cruise down Fifth providing the ultimate eye-candy for car lovers!

New in 2016: The Treme Silent Disco Stage is bringing you a new way to enjoy incredible local DJs. Two DJ’s will be dueling for your attention over two separate frequencies, picked up by your wireless headphones provided at the block entrance.

The Rue Carnival Brazilian Arts Stage will be the center of creativity for the Gaslamp Quarter Mardi Gras. Enjoy Brazillian performances brought to you by the hottest dancers from San Diego, San Francisco, and around the state who will spice up your night with their exotic entertainment. We are excited to announce the addition of incredible San Diego artists who will be painting live to the music throughout the evening. Watch as their creativity unfolds throughout the night as they craft Mardi Gras masterpieces. Be prepared to expect the unexpected from this open format stage.

The King Club Main Stage, headlined by Bone Thugs and Harmony, will provide you with the hottest performances from San Diego and beyond!

Our crowd favorite Canal Street EDM Stage is your stop for all things electronic. We will be bringing BASS and beats to this stage for you to revel in throughout the evening.

Also new this year is a live band stage brought to you by Tin Roof! The Krewe du Vieux Live Music Stage will be offering a large variety of live music and big bands to get you in the Mardi Gras mood! This stage is your one stop shop for all things rock, blues, and beyond!

TICKETS: General Admission to Mardi Gras starts at just $35 through January 10th, $45 through January 24th, $55 through February 5th, and $60 on the day of the event. Upgrade your Mardi Gras experience by going VIP for an exclusive night on the town complete with a VIP entrance, VIP restrooms, 3 complimentary beverages in your VERY OWN VIP areas and much more! What is Hi-Z vs. Lo-Z?  What do people mean when they talk about “Mic Level”, “Line Level”, and “Impedance”? How should you mic up your 1960A rig at your next show or recording project? The short answer: Experiment with many different mics, mic positions, and even mic preamps before settling on a "best" sound.  There is really no "right" answer since music is so subjective, and there may be multiple solutions for different situations.  Make sure you know what speaker sounds best in your cab, and make sure you know where an SM57 sounds best, too, since that's what the average sound tech is going to throw on there. Fostex 3070 Compressor/Limiter Review

One of my close buddies picked up a Fostex 3070 Compressor/Limiter today for $50.00 off of a Craigslist deal and promptly handed it over to me for inspection and testing.  To be honest, my experience with analog compressors is fairly limited; I have used EL Distressors in the past but beyond that, my knowledge is quite limited.  I know what "should" work in theory and what settings might be good for certain genres of music, but I really had no idea what to expect here.
