Belle Jewel rocks Indie Pop with timeless lyrics and emotive vocals

Belle Jewel is another really talented artist I recently discovered on ReverbNation.  It's plenty easy to see (or rather, hear) why they pushed her to the top of the featured artists page recently.  With a very soothing and intentional vocal, her music carries effortlessly from one measure to the next.  Before even looking at the "sounds like" section of her profile, where similar artists are listed for search purposes, I'd already heard strong similarities to greats like Adele and Norah Jones. Her remake of Nat King Cole's L-O-V-E is really special, too, as it gels the old time feel and originality of the song with a refreshing modern voice.  There is a simplicity to her style in this particular track that really grabbed me; a playfulness, even, which is well tempered against the music.  Belle's level of control is impressive for a teenager, too, and hence the only complaint I can find is that she does not have more music available for us to enjoy. ...

Kim Logan's Rock and Roll

You can buy Kim's album on her BandCamp Page Kim Logan arose from the swamps and beaches of Sarasota, Florida, after a decade in the opera industry, to write songs and make records in Nashville. With her education from the Berklee College of Music, and her years of the kind of hands-on learning you can only get in honky tonks and on highways, Kim flexes her artistic muscles in every medium of art imaginable. In addition to the release of her debut self-titled album, Kim has penned a guest editorial for Lockeland Springsteen, consulted on and served as muse for a collection by fashion designer Rachel Hesse, and collaborated with filmmakers Joshua Shoemaker (Shovels & Rope, Alabama Shakes, Hurray For the Riff Raff), and Trillbee the Hooligan (Ziggurat Records, Treekeeper) in the mediums of short film and music video. A classic, craftsman's songwriting sensibility, paired with sonic homage to each unique sub-genre in the history of southern music, makes for Kim...

Alex Johnson (Goodbye Blue Monday) has two of the best acoustic songs I've heard in a while

Alex Johnson is the artist and creative genius behind Goodbye Blue Monday .  His acoustic style and voice combine a rock influence with the laid-back feel that comes with acoustic playing: it gives me that hanging-out-with-friends-on-Friday-night at a bonfire feel, like I'm sitting on Blacks beach in San Diego, CA watching the waves break as the sun sets.  It's very pleasing and relaxing, and the music allows you to simply let go of your worries for a few minutes while you listen.  My only complaint is that there aren't more tracks available! So, what got you started with all this music stuff anyways? I started playing music when I was about 14 years old. My mom forced me to start out with piano lessons and said if I hated it after a few lessons I could quit. I loved it and continued for about 2 years. It was then that I started writing my own chord progressions and songs and grew tired of only being able to play other peoples music and wanted to create my own. ...

Artist Spotlight - An Interview with Hayley Richman

I recently discovered Hayley Richman on ReverbNation while perusing my usual rounds of new music.  In fact, she has already gained quite a following with nearly 30,000 RN fans and the same amount of YouTube Subscribers .  Wow! Her alternative musical style lends itself an ambient quality that is very pleasing, and which is produced with a very professional sound.  Her voice is very mature for her age, too.  Hailing from Canada, Hayley is currently 15 years old with a promising future ahead.  Here is what she had to say during our brief interview together. 1. When did you originally start playing music?  Tell us a little bit about your introduction to the great world of music. I've been singing casually for most of my life but I only started taking it seriously about two years ago. My dad is a musician so ever since I was little I've heard guitar playing & loud stereo music all around the house.. the obsession was sort of inevitable! 2...

Franklin - The Rock Band from Aberdeen

Franklin is a band that is both easy to listen to and fun to get into.  Songs like "Now I Know" have an upbeat rhythm with classic rock tones, while "Miss Conception" starts out more mellow but grows into a rich chorus with growing dynamic elements.  The band currently has more than 5,000 followers on ReverbNation, too! This is what Lewis had to say during our brief interview together. 1. When did you originally start playing music?  Tell us a little bit about your introduction to the great world of music. Franklin originated from what we call "bedroom players" it was mostly people who would play to backing tracks or songs in their rooms and never really showcased our talents. It all started up when Lewis approached Nairn after seeing some of his drumming on YouTube. Nairn then brought in Peter our bassist and Lewis asked Jess, our singer. After that we worked on an EP and just began to develop our sound. Jack joined early this year as we ...

Featuring Brooke Stratton - Pop / R&B Singer from Mesa, AZ

Brooke Stratton has an inviting sound, drawing you in with her close-feeling voice and solid rhythm sections.  Ample harmonies and light accompaniments build a melodic atmosphere around her lead vocal, maintaining a very clean feeling throughout.  Her songs are mixed well and make it easy for the listener to simply kick back and enjoy the music.  Be sure to check out "Break Free," which adds an element of dance and modern club feel, this was my personal favorite.  A fellow Arizonan, Brooke is from Mesa, AZ not far from where I grew up.  This is what she had to say in our brief interview together: 1. When did you originally start playing music?  Tell us a little bit about your introduction to the great world of music. I think the first time I sang was when I was 3 years old!  My mom was a country singer and while I was growing up I went to all of her concerts and shows and wanted to be just like her.  I would sing in front of the mirror w...
