San Diego's Thirty 30 Releases Metal Album "House of Plagues"

On Monday, June 1st, San Diego's 6 piece metal machine, Thirty 30, dropped a slew of grenades on the metal community when they finally revealed the release date and cover art of their long awaited album "House Of Plagues". The announcement was made on the band's Facebook page were in the post, it was revealed that their first full length album, "House Of Plagues", will be released on Friday, July 24th, 2015.

"House Of Plagues" is the follow up to their much well received 2012 Ep, "From The Fallout", and much has changed in the last three years. Thirty 30 has recruited two new vocalists (Kylan Pownell and Stacey Barnett), a new guitarist, (Albab Ahmed), and a new drummer ("From The Fallout" producer Roger Alvarez), and although Thirty 30 have performed a few times since 2012 (their last show in August '14 they shared the stage with Soulfly), Thirty 30 has been fairly dormant until now.

The Facebook post regarding the release date of "House Of Plagues" was also accompanied by a picture of the album's cover art. The artwork, which displays a house hand drawn and colored in red and white, harkens to the style of Sin City/The Dark Knight Returns creator Frank Miller. The album artwork was designed by former Thirty 30 guitarist Daen Olson.

Following the post revealing the album's release date and cover artwork, guitarist Anthony Esparza also reveals on his podcast, The Esparza Show, that Thirty 30 plans to release two new singles prior to the release of "House Of Plagues". Anthony revealed that the singles ("Find My Way" and the title track, "House Of Plagues") will be released sometime at the end of June and that "Find My Way" will be released for radio while "House Of Plagues" will be accompanied by a music video.

"House Of Plagues" was produced by Michael Dobmeier, whose credits include Guns N' Roses, Serj Tankian, Nelly Furtado, The Game, and more.

"House Of Plagues", Thirty 30's first LP will be released July 24th via iTunes and their website www.officialthirty30.com.

Marshall 1960A 4x12 Guitar Cab Mic Placement / Positioning

How should you mic up your 1960A rig at your next show or recording project? The short answer: Experiment with many different mics, mic positions, and even mic preamps before settling on a "best" sound.  There is really no "right" answer since music is so subjective, and there may be multiple solutions for different situations.  Make sure you know what speaker sounds best in your cab, and make sure you know where an SM57 sounds best, too, since that's what the average sound tech is going to throw on there. Fostex 3070 Compressor/Limiter Review

One of my close buddies picked up a Fostex 3070 Compressor/Limiter today for $50.00 off of a Craigslist deal and promptly handed it over to me for inspection and testing.  To be honest, my experience with analog compressors is fairly limited; I have used EL Distressors in the past but beyond that, my knowledge is quite limited.  I know what "should" work in theory and what settings might be good for certain genres of music, but I really had no idea what to expect here.
