New EDM Producer is Making a Name with FALL 2014
EDM is one of those genres I keep coming back to time and again, mostly for its dance/house roots and easy listening characteristics. There's nothing quite like being out on a Friday or Saturday night with your friends and getting lost in the mix late at night. However, like in any genre or sub-genre of music, there are great artists and then there are those who don't quite make the cut. Some songs in particular really inspire me to get on my feet.
Chicago-based EDM Producer BOMBS DROPPING is one of those who has truly outdone himself with his highly anticipated release, FALL 2014. With a combination of intense beats and sensible rhythms, it's easy to get lost in the mix. The music speaks for itself, with its own unique call to action that brings you out to the dance floor.
At the same time, songs like "Insomniac" double as great chill songs to listen to in the car with your subs cranked. Then in songs like "Faster," which features classic beat drops and thought-provoking percussion patterns, there is certainly more than meets the eye (or ear, perhaps!). The intro has an off-beat percussive rhythm that grabbed me the first time I heard it, but which I didn't fully appreciate until I'd heard it a few times.
"The album...portrays Vivaldi's Four Seasons..."
Altogether, the FALL 2014 digital album features ten very high energy songs which will have you mesmerized. Like another review recently pointed out, "The album very distinctly uses energy through sound to portray and feature Halloween and, like Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, it poetically yet irreverently depicts the season of Fall and the various changes and colors which characterize it."
This parallel is unique to this album, too, as not every album is laid out in such an intentional manner. Most are just a flurry of songs thrown together in an arbitrary order, perhaps with some of the best songs at the beginning. However, some of the most memorable works from this particular album are towards the end, with my favorite dubstep beats dropping in "Encore" and an incredible throwback vibe in "Memories," the album closer.
Ideal Lyrics, Energy, Beats, and Audio Production
As most of you already know, audio production quality (specifically, the mix and the master) is a key metric I measure when reviewing any album, and in this case, I was impressed that the entire production was so polished. In fact, it's truly commercial quality, albeit without too much reliance on smashing compression, at least not in an obvious manner. In summary, the producer and engineers have done a bang up job with this one.
Altogether, FALL 2014 is a combination of great lyrics, energy, beats, high quality audio production, and creative intensity, which will have audiences of all ages enjoying this production. According to Bombs Dropping, "my music is intense and energetic, so it's perfect for working out, clubbing, playing video games, or even just driving around. If you like Nine Inch Nails, Skrillex, and Excision, you’re gonna love FALL 2014.
According to Rick Jamm of Jamsphere, “All the tracks on the album just unfold and reveal new charms with every listen as Bombs Dropping strikes a balance between great writing, compelling vocal samples and impeccable sound design. His technique is solid, and the music itself is at times epic, at other times soulful and inspiring.
In my own musical pursuits, I have always been drawn to those who avoid the proverbial cookie-cutter when writing music, and who instead elect to demonstrate a taste for variety across an album. It is easy enough to write "me-too" songs that are nothing short of a carbon copy of your own work, and while that strategy can sometimes be effective (and successful elements should be recognized and preserved), it must be executed flawlessly to be pleasing for a listener. Otherwise, even a high-budget album can grow tired on the ears too quickly, perhaps three or four songs in.
Fortunately, Bombs Dropping has gone the other direction by choosing to display a truly creative menu for his listeners, while still maintaining a dominant and unified sound throughout, and listeners everywhere are sure to appreciate it.
The FALL 2014 producer always seeks to amaze patrons and fans, as he strongly believes in the value of entertainment and the physiological and psychological importance of getting lost in a moment and totally enjoying oneself through sound and colors.
Bombs Dropping is a self-taught pianist, producer and songwriter from Chicago, Illinois. He has been writing and producing music since high school for the past ten (10) years.
