Underground Spotlight: Bad Seed Rising

Bad Seed Rising

This week’s Underground Spotlight is dedicated to one of the best upcoming Rock & Roll acts Maryland (my home state) has to offer, BadSeed Rising. They have toured with many top notch bands in the industry such as: Motley Crue, Halestorm, Trapt, Daughtry, 3 Doors Down, Everclear, Kix, Night Ranger, Johnny Rzeznik, Molly Hatchet and others. But what sets these musicians apart from the rest is that the band consists of 10-15 year olds! These musicians are already taking over the music scene and they haven’t even graduated high school yet. Their first EP 606 was recorded at the Foo Fighters studio in Los Angeles with producer John " Lou " Lousteau, which is one amazing opportunity for any band. Since then, they have been on one exciting nonstop journey sharing their music and talent with listeners.

With 15 year old Francheska as lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, 12 year old lead guitarist and backing vocalist Mason, 10 year old Aiden on the drums and 14 year old Louey on bass, this band comes together and puts on one amazing show. I got a chance to see them live in action bringing in the New Year with Halestorm at the Baltimore Soundstage. Everyone in the crowd, including me, were stunned at their talent and the fluidity of their performance. I guarantee, this band is going to go far!

I recently got a chance to talk with Francheska about the band, some of their influences, and being young in the industry.

Neshell Hogan: What is it like being so young in the music industry?
Francheska: It’s amazing, because people look at us like little kids, but when they hear us play, jaws drop.

As a band, who are some of your biggest musical inspirations?
Francheska: Some bands we look up to:
Guns and Roses
Motley Crue
Led Zeppelin
Sleeping with Sirens
Volbeat
Van Halen
Young the Giant
Foo Fighters
Halestorm

Those are some amazing bands! You have toured with some big time musicians, was it ever intimidating?
Francheska: We’re actually really excited when we hear who we’re opening up for next; when we meet them, we’re even more excited. The people we meet from big time bands, like Halestorm, are actually really down to earth, and they’re fun to chill with.

Any advice for other young musicians out there?
Francheska: Our advice is to make sure you’re dedicated. If you know you are, find some other friends you know that are just as dedicated. Another thing is, attack your instrument, know your scales, and practice. Practice is key. When you practice, you venture off to another world and start coming up with cool riffs and when you do, record it. Record anything and everything, write things down, anything. You’ll never remember it if you don’t.

That’s great advice. Any exciting news you would like to share with your fans?
Francheska: Yeah, we just signed a record deal with Road Runner/Atlantic Records, and we’re heading out to Los Angeles to work with Chris Shiflett from the Foo Fighters, and John 5 all at Studio 606 where we recorded our EP 606!

It was recently announced that Bad Seed Rising will be going on tour with 3 Doors Down, Daughtry and Halestorm! Check out their site to see if they’ll be coming near you.
